Spring Book Swap

Monday begins our Spring Book Swap and I think it's going to be a great one! Just look at the books turned in for the swap.

There were about 50 picture books turned in...

About 30 chapter books, and...

13 nonfiction books.

About 20 students are participating this time and I think they are going to get some really great books.

If you are interested in conducting your own book swap, you can read more about what I've done herehere, and here.

I also have a free book swap packet that you can download here to get you started.

Good luck and happy swapping!  =)

  1. Hi there,

I'm a first year Media Specialist in Kansas, and we're having a book swap in a couple of weeks. Our school is in a fairly urban area and many of our families struggle financially. I didn't want kids who couldn't afford to donate a book (maybe they really don't have any books at home or maybe they only have a couple and aren't allowed to donate them) to feel left out, so everyone is being limited to three books, no matter how many they bring (they all know this) so that all of the kids get to choose a book to keep, no matter if they donated or not. If they kids donate two or three books, they get to choose two or three to keep, while the kids who don't donate any only get one, but at least they get one. We had a lot of extra books from our last Book Swap a few years ago, which is partly how I'm able to do this. Do you find that the kids who are unable to donate a book get upset at not being able to participate in the Book Swap at your school? I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to work this next year when I may not have as many books.

    1. Hi Erin,

This is only the second Book Swap, I've done, but so far no one has gotten upset if they couldn't participate. I remind students who are not participating that ask about it that they can join in for the next Book Swap and that usually is all I have to say. Good luck with your swap! =)
