Book Swap Update

We finished up with the Book Swap today, and I'd have to say for a first go 'round, I think it was a big success.  55 students turned in about 250 books.

I had the swap planned so that different grade levels came on different days.  This allowed me to put out appropriate level books for each grade.

There were mostly and picture books and chapter books that were swapped, but...
...there were also a few nonfiction books as well.

My first "customers"

All of the students I asked said they enjoyed the swap and would do it again.  I think we're going to try doing another one towards the end of the school year.  It really was an easy activity, will minimal set up and organization involved.

If you missed the first post about the swap, you can find it here along with a link to free files to hold your own swap.  I'd love to hear about your swap if you decide to do one.

  1. I just love this idea and we are going to do it in May to kick off our summer reading push. :)

    1. I hope your kiddos love it as much as the kiddos at my school did! It really was an easy activity to do and so much fun! I'd love to know how it goes for you. =)

  2. Have you done this for K-2? I was just thinking about sticking to 3-5. How many volunteers would you recommend?
Thanks! I love the files you've made!

    1. I did this with PreK-5, but I had them come on different days. I did not have any volunteers helping me and I managed okay. I even kept check out going at the same time. What takes the most time is when they turn in the books and you have to look through them to be sure they meet the criteria and then write out their receipt for it. That's probably when you would need your volunteers to help out. One volunteer for checking them in and maybe one for writing out the receipts would be helpful. Good luck! Let me know how it goes if you decide to hold your own Book Swap. =)
