First we reviewed the different genres that we've covered so far this year. Then students broke into groups to become genre detectives. They worked together to match the genre to its definition.
Then they had to use that information to determine what genre a set of books were in. Each group was given 8 different books with 8 different genre labels. They simply placed the labels on the books and when finished, used the answer key to see how they did.
Overall, I think they enjoyed the activity.
