#toptentitles Easy Chapter Books

I created the Easy Chapter book section a few years ago to make it easier for patrons who were ready to move onto chapter books to find good reads, as well as for students who may need chapter books that weren't quite so long to read.  You can read more about this section HERE.

This year's top Easy Chapter books include many Henry and Mudge titles as well as most of the Buddy Files series, and a few happy new surprises for me.  Here are the top ten easy chapter books for our media center:

Number ten includes Buddy Files, Henry and Mudge, as well as a newcomer this year...a couple of Ricky Ricotta titles.

Spot number nine includes one of the Missy titles (Love Susan Nees!), a Ricky Ricotta title as well as a few Violet Mackerel titles, which are new to our collection.  It seems that they are a hit!

Spot number eight includes another Buddy Files, Ricky Ricotta, and a couple of Henry and Mudge titles as well as a Nancy Clancy title.

Number seven...Henry and Mudge

Number six...2 Henry and Mudge titles and a Mr. Putter and Tabby, as well as a Ricky Ricotta and a Buddy Files...see a pattern here?

Number five...another Henry and Mudge and a Dyamonde Daniel.  I was glad to see DD in the top ten this year.  I was really hoping that series would catch on.

Number three...no surprises there, based on the top 10-4

Number two...sounds about right

And the number one spot is shared by two Mr. Putter and Tabby books and Dog Diaries.

Taking the time to look up the top titles in different sections really helps me to figure out what series I need to invest in.  I think the Buddy Files, Henry and Mudge and Mr. Putter and Tabby take the cake this year, but I can see some other series gaining popularity. It will be interesting to see what this upcoming school year's circulation will be.

And now it's time for the top 10 easy chapter books checked out in 2013-2014.

#10 was a tie between

Henry and Mudge and the Bedtime Thumps by Cynthia Rylant,

The Buddy Files: The Case of the School Ghost by Dori Hillestad Butler, and

Boo's Surprise by Betsy Byars

with 14 checkouts each.

#9 was a tie between

Henry and Mudge and Annie's Perfect Pet by Cynthia Rylant and 

Mr. Putter and Tabby Walk the dog by Cynthia Rylant

with 15 checkouts each.

#8 was a tie between

Henry and Mudge and the Happy Cat by Cynthia Rylant and 

Henry and Mudge in the Puddle of Trouble by Cynthia Rylant

with 16 checkouts each.

#7 was Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night by Cynthia Rylant

with 17 checkouts.

#6 was a tie between

The Buddy Files: The Case of the Mixed Up Mutts by Dori Hillestad Butler,

Cam Jansen: The Mystery of the UFO by David A. Adler, and 

Henry and Mudge and the Big Sleepover by Cynthia Rylant

with 18 checkouts each.

#5 was a tie between

Nancy Clancy Super Sleuth by Jane O'Connor and 

Henry and Mudge: The First Book by Cynthia Rylant

with 19 checkouts each.

#4 was a tie between

Henry and Mudge in the Sparkle Days by Cynthia Rylant,

Mr.Putter and Tabby Pick the Pears by Cynthia Rylant, and

Mr. Putter and Tabby Paint the Porch by Cynthia Rylant 

with 20 checkouts each.

#3 was a tie between

Henry and Mudge Get the Cold Shivers by Cynthia Rylant and

Mr. Putter and Tabby Feed the Fish by Cynthia Rylant.

Both had 21 checkouts.

#2 was Mr.Putter and Tabby Take the Train by Cynthia Rylant

with 22 checkouts.

And the #1 checked out easy chapter book was

Dog Diaries: Secret Writings of the WOOF Society by Betsy Byars

with 30 checkouts.

Cynthia Rylant and dog books are obviously very popular with this group of readers at my school.  This is no surprise as the Henry and Mudge books and the Mr. Putter and Tabby books are almost always all checked out. I might need to add a few more of those to the collection.

Most Popular Titles of the Year...Easy Chapter Books

The number 10 spot is shared by three books in the same series...Ready Freddy! by Abby Klein.  The three books that share this spot are Firehouse Fun!, Help! A Vampire's Coming!, and Shark Tooth Tale.

Coming in at number 9 are four titles, three of which are part of different series.  These books include The Buddy Files: The Case of the Missing Family by Dori Hillestad Butler, Can Do, Jenny Archer by Ellen Conford, Mr. Putter and Tabby Take the Train by Cynthia Rylant, and Please Write in This Book by Mary Amoto.

Number 8 was another Ready Freddy! book, A Very Crazy Christmas by Abby Klein.

In the number 7 spot are two books from two different series, Miss Child Has Gone Wild! by Dan Gutman in the My Weirder School series and Pony Pals: Detective Pony by Jeanne Betancourt in the Pony Pals Series.

 

Number 6 was a tie between Mr. Putter and Tabby Walk the Dog by Cynthia Rylant and Ready Freddy!: Tooth Trouble by Abby Klein.

The number 5 spot is shared by three books:  Horrible Harry and the Dead Letters by Suzy Kline, Horrible Harry at Halloween by Suzy Kline, and Little Horse on His Own by Betsy Byars.

Coming in at number 4 was The Buddy Files: The Case of the Mixed-Up Mutts by Dori Hillestad Butler.

At number 3 was Cam Jansen and the Mystery of the U.F.O. by David A. Adler.

The number two most checked out Easy Chapter Book was The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling.

And the number one most checked out Easy Chapter Book for the year was Little Horse by Betsy Byars.
