Martin Luther King Day Freeibe

Are you looking for a way to teach your littles about Martin Luther King Day and why we celebrate it?

One of my favorite books for teaching about this special man and his special day is Happy Birthday Martin Luther King by Jean Marzollo.  I read this book to both my Kindergarten friends and my first grade friends each year.  We talk about how laws have changed and why that is important. We talk about how things would be different if these laws still exist-yes, kindergarteners and first graders can answer this questions and often have some wonder insight.

After we read the book, students go to their tables to draw their favorite part of the story and to draw what they can do to help Mr. King's dream come true.

Look at the pictures they drew!

You can grab this discussion sheet  HERE for free in my TpT store.

There are three sheets to choose from.  You could easily make a display with the students' responses.

How do you celebrate Martin Luther King Day?
